Lexie's Birthday

It's that time of year again - Lexie's birthday.  Again we were away for her actual birthday so we decided to celebrate a bit early this year.  We had some of her friends come over the Friday before we left (11th November).

As far as cakes go Lexie was very adamant that she wanted a castle cake this year so after a lot of online research I came up with a design.

I baked three separate cakes and cut them all out, then I set Lexie and Josh to painting icecream cones with white sugar and rolling them in coloured sugar for the turrets.  All was going well until it came time to ice the cake.  Now I'm not sure if the icing was just oo soft or what but I could not get the icing to stay on the cake, no matter what I did, after stripping it all off and trying a second time I just gave up and came up with the idea of coving the entire front of the castle in square lollies to resemble bricks, that did the trick, we then covered the other surfaces of the cake with whatever other chocolates and lollies we had on hand and turned Lexies castle into a "Candy Castle".

By the looks of things she was pretty happy with it.
