The first couple of days were spent just relaxing (and trying to stay out of the weather which had turned miserable)
We also had a contracter in to do some repair work. During winter last year we had had a few ice dams and one of our walls was leaking so luckily the insurance company paid for us to have it repaired. As per usual it turned out to be a much bigger job than we had originally expected and we ended up ripping out an entire wall and rebuilding with a new door etc. we decided that at the same time we may as well put in a false floor (the original one was so uneven it was terrible) so once the contractors were out of the way Dad and I put on our carpenters hats. Lex and Josh also had some fun helping.
We also painted the entire room to get rid of the terrible wood panelling, with a new carpet it turned out pretty good.
In between all this work we found some time to go road tripping.
Our first trip was up into New Hampshire and Vermont to see the leaves turning colour.
We drove up the freeway to Twin mountain in New Hampshire.
We found a place to stay with a little two bedroom cottage and a fantastic playground.
Everyone had fun playing on the playground - even Grandma and Grandpa
The next morning we headed to Mt Washington for a ride on the cog railway.
After we got off the mountain we headed north looking for the fall colours. We stopped in Lancaster for Lunch and a run around in the park.
Unfortunately the leaves wern't looking their best so we decided we'd head west towards Montpelier instead. We found some cute Halloween decorations during some roadworks we stopped at - the kids thought it was hilarious.
All that sitting in the car took it's toll on everyone though.
We had a short stop at the last covered railroad bridge.
Found some cute little New England Barns.
And some lovely lakes with the fall foilage.
Overnight at Montpelier
The first thing on the agenda for day 2 was a visit to the Shelburne Museum in Burlington.
Its a fantastic museum with so many different things to see from the paper sculptures to the quilts to the doll houses, the blacksmith, the boat - really something for everyone.
After leaving the museum we headed down Lake Chanplain. We stopped for icecream in a cute little town called Brewter. We tried to find accomodation but couldn't find anything we like so ended up down in Rutland.
Day 3 was spent driving home in the rain!
All the touring really caught up with Josh - I mean how tired do you have to be to fall asleep in a hard rocking chair like this....
Quality time with Grandma and Grandpa.
and Daddy
The next trip with Grandma and Grandpa was up the coast towards New Hampshire. First stop was Rockport.
We then headed up to Newburyport
Lunch at Portsmouth NH
We finally got around to checking out the Melting Pot restaurant in Framingham. All had a great time, anda great meal.
We took a train trip into town one day - spent a short while running around Copley Square.
And then got our first realy taste of winter for the year - a snow storm in October!
Halloween was a bit of a let down this year. After the storm the town of Millis decided to postpone Halloween trick or treating, but since Grandma and Grandpa had to leave the next day we decided to head up to Milford where our Lobster and our Bee managed to get some Trick or Treating done.
